Caring for Children
Click the headings below to reveal information.
During the first few years of a child’s life, there are enormous social, physical, intellectual and emotional changes and growth. This continues until early adulthood. By studying how children develop, we can learn more about why children develop the way they do and then ways to help them to develop effectively. We can also understand why some children have difficulties and how to help them overcome these. In this course students will have the opportunity to learn about puberty, pregnancy, birth, newborn baby characteristics and childhood development. Practical activities include:
- Rice Babies
- Scrapbooking Developmental Journal
- Polar Fleece Heat Packs for Menstrual Pain Relief
- Information Pamphlets
- Taggy Blankets
- Nursery Mobiles
- A year long course, undertaken for two periods per week
Caring for children is a fun lesson to always look forward to having each week. If you are interested in the development of children, childcare and becoming a parent this elective is for you. During the year you will do many fun assessments such as making a rice baby, heat pack, pamphlets and a mobile. What I love most about this is that you get to be very creative and learn many new skills such as hand sewing while having lots of fun becoming friends with new people. I strongly encourage you to take part in Caring for Children in year 9. Holly – Year 10
