This is a year long course covering two themes, one per semester.
Food to Share Preparing food to share with others is fun and rewarding. Students learn the courses of the formal menu and examine the factors that impact on menu planning. They have the opportunity to participate in a range of practical activities to develop their food preparation skills while preparing and presenting food for others.
Australian Foods: Past, present & future Students examine the history of food in Australia, from bush tucker through to multi-cultural influences. They also develop and prepare a variety of dishes whilst considering labelling, packaging and sustainability. Practical activities will focus on meeting the food needs of consumers today without compromising the food needs of those in the future.
- Undertaken for two periods per week
Food and nutrition is a fun, enjoyable elective where you can establish amazing cooking skills. I have loved being able to learn new important skills and cook delicious recipes. So far this year I have learnt more terminology, how to enhance presentation skills, as well learning more about the cultural background and history behind foods, such what the native Australians used to eat in their diet. Overall, food and nutrition has helped me develop more confidence regarding cooking and has helped me advance life skills I can apply to everyday.
