In the Human Biology General course, students learn about themselves, relating the structure of the different body systems to their function and understanding the interdependence of these systems in maintaining life. Reproduction, growth and development of the unborn baby are studied to develop an understanding of the effects of lifestyle choices. Students will engage in activities exploring the coordination of the musculoskeletal, nervous and endocrine systems. They explore the various methods of transmission of diseases and the responses of the human immune system. Students research new discoveries that help increase our understanding of the causes and spread of disease in a modern world.
An understanding of human biology is valuable for a variety of career paths including social work, medical and paramedical fields, food and hospitality, childcare, sport, science and health education.
This course would be suitable for those students who intend to study a science related course at Training WA.
Human Biology is beyond thrilling, through interactive classes and different ways of learning we are able to investigate how the body works and how it all links together to function the way it does. In Human Biology we are able to explore the body systems through dissections and really find out what is happening inside us! Not only do we learn about our own body, but we also learn how those in the medical field conduct their research through scientific inquiries and experiments. Human biology has interested me for years and continues to do so as there are no dull moments within the course. The fascinating and extensive detail we go into never ceases to amaze me and many others, hence the love we all have for the subject.
