The course introduces the Italian language and culture from a teenager’s perspective. Students continue to learn the Italian Culture and Language via its four skills:

  • Listening and Responding
  • Reading and Responding
  • Writing
  • Speaking

Semester 1 – Questo mio mondo – My world  Students engage in activities associated with their world, aspects of youth and Italian culture, and their personal identity. They also begin to develop the skills and strategies to participate in Italian in a range of situations including sharing of personal information and obtaining information from others.

  • Personal Profile of self and famous personalities of the year
  • Create a Time Capsule and open the 10-Year-Old Capsule
  • Creating a Friendship Collage
  • Italian Songs and Song Reviews
  • Dance Italian Style
  • Trends-what’s in and out

Semester 2 – Cose da Fare. Perchè non usciamo? – Things do to. Why don’t we go out?  Students have the opportunity to examine the activities that are popular today while building on their developing language skills in order to share information about where and how they spend their time. They also learn more about Italy, as well as exploring the language and skills that will enable them to welcome Italians to their own country.

  • Daily Routines
  • Difference between young Italian and Australian lifestyles and pastimes.
  • Arrange to go out – SMS/snapchat
  • Cooking and following Italian Recipes
  • Cinema – Watch an Italian Film and write film review
  • Create class magazine

The frequency of this subject is TWO periods per week.

This course is a pre-requisite for students wishing to continue Italian as second language in Year 11 and Year 12 This course is designed for students learning Italian as a second language and it is aimed at students who wish to continue to learn Italian in Year 11 and Year 12. For more information please refer to the eligibility requirements as stipulated in the School Curriculum and Standards Authority by clicking HERE. Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Go on Excursions e.g. lunch at Re Store, Deli Caffé Italia
  • Host an Italian Exchange student
  • Participate in the Side by Side Competition
  • Participate in the WAATI State Wide Exam
  • Participate in the WAATI exchange to Italy for 2 months
  • They will have the opportunity to go on Study Tour
