The Year 9 Media course is a development of the skills students have started to develop. New technologies are introduced, and different production contexts are studied, such as soap opera, film trailers and reality television. The course is largely production based and allows the development of skills across storyboarding, scriptwriting, cinematography and editing. They consider the impact context and audience have on media work and explore the impact of trends on how audiences use media. Students extend and refine their skills and processes for problem-solving, working as a team, following timelines and using processes and strategies to ensure safe and responsible use of media equipment.

I really like media as we find fun ways to break down and understand the different forms of media and how to best communicate messages through these. I love the group interaction and the fact that what we study is happening in real life today. Media gives us tips on how to use equipment that are used in everyday life for example DSLR cameras, video cameras, editing programs. I highly recommend doing Media!

Media is a great way to meet new people, get busy out side of the classroom, and learn valuable key skills and understanding in the large world of media. It gets many conversations about the world started and gives you a clear insight on what its like to work on set. Each class you learn a new skill whether its how to communicate in the best way possible, turning on a camera or how to edit. With the best teachers, class activities and being the subject I have made most of my favourite memories at high school. Media is definitely a worthwhile subject. (Imogen, Year 9 Media student)
