The Music course offers students opportunities to further develop their understanding of the language of music. Students can explore their creativity and express themselves in a fun and challenging way, both individually and with other students.

Music in Year 8 is open to anyone who wants to continue to explore music through listening, composing and performing. Students will gain an understanding of composing through film score composition using technology and traditional notation using Western Art composition methods.

Performance tasks are creative, using apps such as A Capella instead of traditional solo performance. There are opportunities to learn the basic skills required for guitar and keyboard performance in a class environment (note: this is part of their classroom music lessons, separate to individual instrumental tuition). In addition, they will study Grade 1 Music Theory skills required to understand the fundamentals of composition.

Year 8 Music is ideal for students who enjoy performing and want to develop these skills in a fun and engaging class environment.

  • Syllabus and other SCSA documentation can be found at HERE
  • Although not compulsory for Year 8, it is recommended that students are able to play an instrument/sing, due to the practical components of this course.
  • Participation in an ensemble is highly encouraged.

Choosing Music in Year 8 is a great way to gain confidence and get a clearer understanding on the basics of music. Each assessment is really helpful and educational, and we play many games which means we are able to have fun while we learn.
