Dance is a year-long course in Year 9 where elements of dance, choreographic approaches and technique are consolidated and extended. Students build on and refine competence in their dance skills in specific dance styles and focus on clarity of movement, expression, and musicality. They explore choreography and creative processes and improve their ability to work in a team by devising and presenting their own work. This course is very performance based and practical. Dance is a fun learning environment that develops students’ movement techniques.
Year 9 Dance is an amazing experience and fantastic opportunity to develop physically and creatively. I loved learning different dance routines and various styles of dance, such as jazz and hip-hop. One of the highlights of this year was preparing for our dance showcase— it was exciting performing for our families and friends on stage and showing them all our hard work. The preparation brought our class closer as we supported each other throughout rehearsals. The atmosphere in class is always positive and motivating, and our teacher always helps us build confidence in our abilities and improve our technique. If you enjoy dance or just want to try something new and creative and active, I definitely recommend picking Dance as an elective! – Emily Falzon, Year 9
